Emi Gilbert

Emi became fascinated by the power of the human voice, and started training her voice by studying choral music. She has performed piano works by composers such as Palestrina and Monteverdi, along with opera arias as solo performances. While she was majoring in linguistics at her university in Tokyo, she became interested in jazz music and started performing at venues in Tokyo. After relocating to Los Angeles, Emi participated in many of her husband Paul Gilbert’s recording projects, and toured around the world in his band. In 2019, Emi started her own live jazz project in Portland, Oregon that combines all of the elements of her musical journey so far.

Interested in performing at Stem??

Performances are Fridays & Saturdays from 7:00pm - 9:00pm.

Drop us a line if you’re interested in playing; however, please read the following to ensure we are a good fit for you before you reach out!

Music performances at Stem are meant to be an enhancement to our guests’ experience. While many folks will come specifically to watch live music, many are also there just to enjoy some wine and catch up with friends or have a special night out, and the music is a surprise welcome addition, but is also secondary to their visit.

With this in mind along with our space constraints, we are primarily looking to schedule solo or duo acts with minimal equipment and instruments. Furthermore, because we do not charge cover or require drink-purchase minimums during performances, we’re limited in the amount of compensation we’re able to provide our performers. In most situations we’ll be able to offer a nominal fee & complimentary beverages, with additional compensation being in the form of tips from guests.

We love supporting local artists and giving up-and-comers a platform to get their name out and their music heard! If all of this sounds good to you, send our music coordinator an email at the address below! In your email, please include links to some of your music. Cheers!
